Jordan Mein faces UFC vet Josh Burkman at first MMA event in Ontario
TORONTO — Former UFC welterweight Josh (The People’s Warrior) Burkman will take on Jordan (Young Guns) Mein of Lethbridge, Alta., at “The Reckoning” on April 2, promoters announced Wednesday.
The show is the first mixed martial arts card at Casino Rama, located about two hours north of Toronto.
It will feature 10 fights with several co-main events.
Mein (20-7) has won three straight, including a victory over former UFC veteran Joe Riggs in January. Burkman (21-8) has won his last three since leaving the UFC, where the Utah resident went 5-5 after appearing on Season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
Former WEC lightweight Chris (The Polish Hammer) Horodecki of London, Ont., will take on an as yet unannounced opponent.
Toronto light-heavyweight Misha Cirkunov (2-1) tackles Montreal’s Ion Cherdivara (1-0) and English welterweight Dean Amasinger (7-3) faces Quebec’s Louis-Philippe Carles (8-2).
In other bouts, it’s:
– Lightweight Jorge Brito (12-6-1) versus Jason Young (7-3).
– Lightweight Jason Saggo (3-0) versus Taylor Solomon (2-1).
– Welterweight Joel Powell (1-2) versus Igor Caetano (2-1).
– Featherweight Antonio Carvalho (12-4) versus Tony Hervey (10-10).
– Bantamweight Nick Denis (9-2) versus TBA.
Veteran MMA official (Big) John McCarthy will serve as head referee for the event with The Score airing the fights in April.
Full details of the Rama card were announced the same day as rival promoters held a news conference to publicize “MFC 29: Conquer” at Casino Windsor on April 8.
The Windsor card is being put on by S.L. Feldman & Associates, using Maximum Fighting Championship talent.
